My Teacup Story by ubobohobo

My Teacup Story

On TV tonight I heard that the State Library of Queensland is seeking stories of tea cups. I thought of my Mum's collection of Shelley China tea cups. They sat in a special cupboard, all pretty and delicate, and were brought out to serve tea when ever visitors arrived- friends, relatives, the odd politition, clergyman, QCWA dignitary. In fact an one who dropped in could not leave without Mum laying the table, wetting a cuppa and layng out an array of home cooked goodies to welcome them. Her buns and sponge cakes were known far and wide.
The tiny collection now sits in my house. I don't give them the use Mum did but I love to see my grandchildren gaze on them in awe as I did when I was a child. I thought they were the most beautiful things I'd seen.
What a beautiful set and lovely memories. Somebody had a great idea at the library - I love social history. Must have been very special with one of your mum's cakes on!

Always remember your mother laying out the morning tea for our craft group get togethers. Our son would like to help her even though he was only 3-4 years old. What an unusual design, the scotch thistle , lovely.
