Paperbarks growing in the anabranch which has filled with flood waters over the past few days and provided this beautiful reflection in the late afternoon light.
Paperbark trees get their name from their bark, which can be pulled off the tree trunk like paper. Aboriginal people used the bark as bandages, for cradles and sleeping mats and wrapped food in it for cooking. It was also a bush medicine that is still used today - the essential oil found in their leaves can be used as an antibiotic.
Beautiful reflections, Margaret! I love all the green in this photo, especially since my world is all grey and brown. This looks as lush as a rain forest to me. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the trees. I love learning about stuff like that.
