As the last of the fog disappeared this lone tree stood highlighted by the morning sun. It seemed to me to be proudly proclaiming its defiance to the world.
Several years ago it was struck by lightning. A huge strip of bark was ripped off the tree from the fork to the ground - the scar can be seen down the centre of the trunk - and pieces of the tree were scattered across the paddock. One half of the tree defied the odds and survived. Even a new shoot has been produced and is spreading out to replace the half that died. The power of Nature never ceases to amaze me.
I couldn't make up my mind which side of the image to place the tree. I decided because I wanted to focus on its survival by choosing to place it to the right attention focussed on the missing half. Any comments?
June word - power
I like how you've got it balanced against the cows and the last of the fog to one side, and the defiant tree on the other. Love the feeling of sunlight with just a little shade thrown by the tree.
I'm a real sucker for these kind of shots, and this is a really good one. Love the deep blue of the sky contrasting with the warmth of the farmland. The tree makes for great foreground interest.
It never ceases to amaze me how resilient our trees are to disasters. This is a brilliant shot - focusing on the struggle to survive with life all around.
