Drama in the Night

As Mopsy and I headed off for our nightly walk I heard the blood curdling cries of a baby rabbit under attack coming from the barn. Mopsy, who was already off on her own rabbit hunt, doubled back and bounded past me into the barn only to emerge a few seconds later with not only the little rabbit but the snake that was attacking it both firmly in her mouth. Imagine my horror. Then she dropped "the gift" at my feet. All I could think to do was get her inside and safely on her chain. Cautiously I ventured back out camera in hand to see what had unfolded. The poor little rabbit was dead and the snake was making a slow retreat with two big holes in its side. In spite of my racing heart I caught this shot to record the drama. (My only photo for the whole day I might add.) Fortunately its a harmless python but its still sending shivers up my spine.
All sounds far to scary for me but great shot and I bet your heart was racing.

What a story, Margaret! We have photographed some snakes, but they surely do want to hide in a hurry. Good capture!

I wouldn't have been anywhere near it Margaret, I have had enough problems with spiders but I would have frozen. Great capture of a very scary creature.

Wow! What a drama! I think you were very brave to venture out again to take the photo but thanks for the story and the photo. Obviously the python was too distress to enjoy his prey.

You're better than me...I'd have been breaking speed records, in the other direction

Yikes, better you than me Margaret.

you were brave to go back. We have lots of pythons in the village. They like to live in the ceiling. UGH!!

An adventure you (and the rabbit) could have done without!

That is scary, indeed. I would have let Mopsy mangle it into pieces.

Oh wow - Nature red in tooth and claw and all that. My sister called a neighbour because of a terrible screaming from her garden. Eventually she found a snake with a frog in its mouth (the frog was screaming) - and that was in deepest dangerous Sussex UK!

@judithg Paints Sussex in a whole new light for me!

Oh yes - it's wild down there!

That all sounds pretty scary to me. Was the baby rabbit a wild one or a pet rabbit? Sounds like your rabbit was very brave! Btw the hat making course sounds fascinating.

Sounds like quite the adventure, glad to hear that neither you nor Mopsy was harmed. Definitely quite scary having a snake given to you as a gift by your fur kid!
