Yes.He's become part of the family now so has been given a name. For new followers, although koalas are Australian animals I have only seen one in the wild once before and certainly never seen one in our area, ever, until January when Kenny appeared one night and has stayed. He moves regularly from blue gum to blue gum but has been in sight of the house for the last three months. Those who have seen earlier posts will see his sore eye has improved over the last couple of weeks. Maybe the rain gave it a good wash out. He was brought to my attention yesterday when all the choughs (birds) found him in a tree where they had a nest. What a commotion. He scurried down a limb and had just jumped across on to this smaller branch where he was more protected when I captured this shot. He looked and me as if to say, "Oh no. Where can a man find some privacy? Go away. Iwant to sleep." After a while he settled himself comfortably on the branch and dozed off ignoring birds, dog and human. I closed my camera and left him in peace.
How magnificent to have a koala bear so close to your home!!!! What a fabulous story - good to hear that you are keeping an eye on him :) I wonder if he has a mate?
@terryliv No. I think we are just too far away from the south east corner. I thought he'd be too difficult to catch but saw them on TV using long poles to bring them down the tree to be caught when they near the ground. So it's not an impossible job if they were to come up here.
Such a good shot. He does appear to be saying 'Leave me alone'. It must be great to wake up each day wondering where he is and then going out(camera in hand) to find him.
@jan11 Thought of calling him Waldo of "Find Wally" fame because that is what we do everyday, go out and search for him among the leaves and it is as difficult as finding Wally. But I'm a sucker for alliteration so Kenny Koala fits better for me.
Great shot and story. We have had the odd male sleep over in a tree on their way somewhere else, probably to find a mate and habitat I suppose. I would like to follow you Margaret as I love native Aussie animals and you do seem to see lots. You also do great commentary also.
