Wow! That's a lot of snake curled up there. The crows were going berserk as the sun rose. Following their cries, I found this - a huge carpet snake curled up in the canopy of an English Elm.
Is that a bit unusual to find them up a tree like that Margaret? I thought they were mainly on the ground and in buildings and rafters. Lovely snake and a lovely capture.
@terryliv That's what interests me. He's been around for a while but I only ever see him up in a tree, never in a farm building. So where does he spend his time between sightings?
@ubobohobo I think you are going to have a lot of educating to do of the 365ers wrt carpet snakes Margaret. Good luck. I'll give you a fav for the impending hard work :-)
I'm waiting for the carpet snake education and enjoying the beauty of its patterned skin against the tree. It's so well camouflaged I would think a tree is its favorite hangout. Glad the crows alerted you to its presence so you could share it with us. Fav.
@mbemis Carpet snakes are the friends of farmers - great vermin catchers. My Dad always kept one in the barn. In fact one night he and Mum were woken by a clattering and banging in the dining room. They went out armed to the hilt to face the intruder only to find it was a huge carpet snake climbing around Mum's ornaments. Both over eighty at the time, they caught the monstrous thing and took it to the barn to be released. My grandson has a snake licence and keeps a carpet as a pet.
