Can't believe it is nine days since I came face to face with this fellow - a red bellied black snake. However he restored my faith in the snake kingdom. When I spotted him his head was raised and only four inches from my bare leg. He could have so easily bitten me but he didn't. He froze. I froze. My husband clapped his hands when I stammered, "A bloody big red bellied black!" and the snake dropped back over itself and disappeared into the grass lining the creek bank .Yes, snakes are as scared of us as we are of them but I still get a cold shiver down my spine when I think of it. Too close for my comfort.
@onewing My thoughts precisely Babs. Think that's why it affected me so much -just thinking about what might have been if it wasn't a placid old red bellied black
Still enough foresight to take a photo....well done Margaret......bravery in the face of danger! Do you hVe to watch out for snakes all the time you are wLking in the fields?
@happypat Always conscious of snakes but especially when lifting up anything that's been stacked outside like timber sheets of iron etc, walking through the cool Lucerne when irrigating is another place I'm very wary and in this hot weather they too need water so water troughs are another beware zone.
