"Welcome to Kiriwina, Trobriand Islands, the best of PNG experience" said the welcome sign. And it was a lovely experience but the centre image captures the contrast between them and us perfectly. Kelvin spent the morning in conversation with locals while I wandered around capturing the atmosphere of the place. The primary school children singing the PNG national anthem gave me goose bumps and brought tears to my eyes - a magical experience. Children in traditional costume standing on parade in a jungle clearing which passed for the school grounds with the most beautiful, unaccompanied voices wafting up into the coconut palm. Any choir coordinator would have been proud. And this is after one of the boys climbed up the flag pole, hand over hand, to hoist the flag!!!
