Dipping day was a big day for everyone including this little fellow, so new his coat glistens. As he lay panting in the midday sun Mum came and stood over him so her shadow fell across him. She stood in this position for about 20 minutes. Very touching.
@cejaanderson Dipping dam - the cattle tick is a blood sacking parasite that weakens cattle. In summer they are particularly troublesome so we spray the cattle with insecticide to kill the ticks and other pests such as buffalo fly that bite and annoy them. Once upon a time they were "dipped" by being made to jump into a dip, a long narrow pool of water laced with insecticide, and swim through it. Now we spray them with a hand held spray but we still call it "dipping". All the cattle are brought in and all sprayed, calves and cows. This master when, there are many young calves, is always a difficult one. The mothers don't want to cooperate. They want to keep their calves away from us humans. So it is always an exhausting muster and baby calves like this one find the day exciting at first but as the day drags on and they are shuffled around from yard to yard the novelty soon wears off and like all little children need their rest.
