It is a custom of mine to prepare dinner and then go out and lock up the chickens while it cooks. That way they're all in bed and it is just a matter of closing the various doors.
Lovely to see these chickens safely locked up, they look quite young Margaret. Harry shuts ours up mid play through the evening at the moment as they stay out quite late until it starts to go dark. In a bit as the days shorten they will go to bed earlier. Do you have foxes or similar that with take them if they aren't shut away? Nice to hear about evening routines!
@happypat yes we do have foxes. Being free range the females often lay in secret places outside then when they sit the fox gets them, this week i lost a hen and my old rooster Big Boris to the fox. Poor old Boris was too heavy for the fox to carry home and he dropped him way out in the paddock and i only discovered what happened when i spotted an eagle circling above,

@ubobohobo aren't they bad Margaret, so often they kill the poor hens fifty no reason & leave them lying there with no heads! I had no idea if you had foxes in Australia.
