From a Bus Window

Travelled out west to Thangool today - a two and a half hour drive from home for a meeting. (Thangool means "possum" in aboriginal language.) My Dad was a chainman on the survey team that mapped out the township in 1925. Later in the late 1930s my aunt taught there. It is indicative of the ageing membership of our QCWA when anecdotes relating to these two family members could be shared with me by Thangool CWA members while we lunched. But it also made me proud that both had made such an impact on the locals that their stories are still being recalled and shared today.
What a great story to go with this wide open and expansive scene! You have such a rich family history here.
There is a new scenes from the road challenge happening that this works perfectly for (especially since you took it from a bus window - lol!)

A beautiful open country with the leading lines taking you through to the distance . How wonderful to have such personal family connections with the area !

The wide open spaces in your country....fascinating to see this....just as you imagine rural Australia to look like! A very proud heritage you have too!

@farmreporter Thanks for the info Wendy I've added it as a tag. @happypat I love a day over on the brigalow downs of the Biloela area. A totally different environment to ours. @beryl after the closed in feel of our valley these open plains always set you free but we are a land of droughts and flooding rains. It was a most depressing drive yesterday - just so dry. On the other hand other relatives are battling floods in Townsville with more torrential rain expected today.

Had to look up Thangool to see if I had been there and I have. Reminds me of the opening line from Sweet Surrender from John Denver
"Lost and alone on some forgotten highway
Travelled by many, remembered by few".

We want to go on another drive out west but I am not going until they have had some rain. I hate the sight of dead grass everywhere
