So this is Nikko. It's an hour and a half north of Tokyo and the place where the lavish wealth of the Tokugawa shogunate are prominently displayed. This is one of the temples and shrines in Nikko national forest and is a part of the World Heritage Sites. This photograph depicts some of the roof tops of Tosho-gu. I wanted to capture the mood of the weather with the rain and fog, but also show the heavy Chinese influence of the imagery along side the opulence of the gold against black roof tops. It's a spectacular place with a rich history, and we were lucky enough to be there when it wasn't packed full of visitors. I called this photo "weight" because the heavy fog, heavy roof, and domineering presence of the dragon all lent themselves to the heaviness of the scene.
