Decided it was time to try star trails...new wide angle, new moon, and the dark of the prairie. I was out for three and a half hours (until 2am) until clouds started to roll in. This was my first hour and 15 minutes. I such a newbie at this, but I had a lot of fun.
A couple of interesting points...1) there are fireflies in the lower right that made it into the picture and 2) you can see what looks like a faint, horizontal dashed line about 2/3 of the way down the photo. That's a satellite that crossed my picture.
Also thanks so much for the comments and favs on my milkweed bug photo from yesterday. I'm so thrilled to be on popular page (as is my shy, little friend)!
Wow Michael -- what a shot! This is incredible. I want to do this (it was even my get-pushed this week, but it's been too overcast. Daunting to think of staying up til 2:00 a.m. to capture this. How long did you do the exposure?
This is a fabulous first attempt, Michael! I've been wanting to try but am intimidated. I'm in Santa Fe for the next week and this could be the perfect place to try. thanks for inspiring!
@lubybee Thanks so much Luretta - oooh, Sante Fe - perfect! Do it soon while the moon is at its darkest. There are plenty of websites to get you on your way. Good luck!
