The lights from yesterday's picture, this time I was showing my son what happens if you put a cut out shape in front of the lens, so here is our first experiment with that.
Great experiment! The colours are very nice and I like that the light is the only sharp thing there. You see, one object and you can do two very different pictures out of it. This is called imagination.
Yet another one. This is awesome. What type of shape did you use? I ask because somebody recommended I shape a Christmas light shot I had taken. Have never done this technique myself... any tips?
Well, thank, Adam @adambralston for all the comments! This is actually very refreshing that someone really takes time to look through and think about someone else's pictures. But that's was the main reason why I started the project. You see, I am more of a snapshot-er, used to take pictures either of my kids, or for the relatives on Facebook with the motto "I've been there". So now, I am trying to actually slow myself down and think before I push that shutter release, so "hits and misses" is very right. I am still too excited about the new discovered beauty of things beyond my kiddies, that at times I get too excited and don't even think about how to make the picture better, and your comments are actually very helpful in making me think about that. So, thanks. My goal is to really take that picture on the day when I post it for, and of course there will be days where I am just rushing to do it. But I will try, and your "no pressure" will definitely help :) Anyway, thanks again for the comments and the follow and I am also exciting to see what 365 will bring. At the moment, I am still excited and overwhelmed with the daily routine of it.
And about the shot - it was an experiment I was trying to show my son and demonstrate that if he watches too much TV, his eyes will take the TV shape. Just like the lens would make shapes of anything that's in front of it. So we just cut out a random (very lopsided) star out of the paper and stuck it to the lens hood. Hence the dark edges there the shape cut off some light off. So, random star, random experiment, done actually with the different purpose. @adambralston
@vera365 Pretty cool. I'll have to do that experiment. Definitely take whatever I say with a grain of salt. And, I don't always follow up like I did with yours. I saw you on the new faces page, and went through your photos, and saw so many good ones I had to comment. I like your vision.
I think this project has really helped me. If nothing else, just accelerating the learning curve, and increasing the chances of hits vs misses. I felt like instead of trying to look back to 3 weeks ago, for example, I was thinking back 2 days, or one day. That really makes it easy to get better fast. I don't think you have that problem. Your photos are good to start with. I still have lots of learning to do.
I don't post everyday. I got to about day 310 and started to slack. But especially at first, pushing everyday is awesome.
Hi Vera, thanks for following me. I really like your pictures too. Guess what, I'm German, but moved to the US in 2006. Since summer of 2013 I live in Michigan. Isn't it funny? Besides that I own a cat and a while ago I did the experiment with the cut out (see above) with my child. So many parallels:) Looking forward to seeing more form your end of the world.
Hi Ute! Well, the world is really small! My story is a little bit more twisted - I am Russian, moved to the US long time ago, but now our family is on a work assignment in Germany till 2017, then back to Ann Arbor! So, I still have a couple of years to document our "European" adventure, this means - yes, lots of pictures coming your way! Where in MI are you? @californialover
@californialover
Our family lives in RH, we will be spending two weeks with them over Easter! I very much like Germany, but I should also say - I know it very well, as this is not my first longer stay here. But it's the first time in the south of Germany, which was a bit of cultural shock. And lots of Maultaschen und Spätzle. Where are you from originally?
Did you move to MI from California? That might be a bit of a culture shock as well, although not so much with Rochester Hills area, I think.
@vera365 I was born and raised in northern Germany and spent most of my time in and around Osnabrück in Lower Saxony. Yes, I moved here a little over a year ago from CA. I loved it there and I still don't like the long winters here. Good news is, that we will be moving back to California this summer. You will spend Easter here? We will have to meet! It's really a small world.
@californialover Oh that would be fun! If you want, find me on Facebook (Vera Irwin), if you use FB, and if you are not afraid to get bunch of pictures of field trips through Germany with two kiddies in your feed.
