Taking flight

I need advice on this one! I went back and forth on composing and cropping it! On the one hand, I wanted to leave "her" enough space to flight into, on the other hand, it leaves a big empty space on the right. Filling it with anything (e.g. more tree reflections) didn't work for me either, because then I didn't have a feeling of "freedom" of the flight. So, question - leave it as it? Crop it? Do anything else? Thank you for any kind of input and comments on this one!

wonderfully zen.

I think there is no need to fill it with any extra stuff, May be to crop it a bit (cut about 8mm from the bottom)

You have achieved a beautiful textrue in the red and a great shadow and tree reflection. What would I have done? I would have turned the image upside down, that way you get a lead in from left to right which is generally more pleasing. I would then have cropped so that the frame was squarish with the diagonal going across the frame with the yellow end pointing to the corner. Too many photographers are scared of rotating, flipping and cropping their images to improve the composition. Only my view, but hope it helps.

@bob65 Getting scared that I am always after you Bob with same ideas! Good I read other comments first this time.

Ok, now that I thought about it... I do see your point with the rotating and cropping it to a square-isn form. However, for me, it creates a completely different image. What I see in this petal + reflection is a human/fairy/feminine (?) figure (alas, without a head), with the reflection being the body, and the petal itself the wing flapping in the wind. When turned upside down, I would lose that.
Otherwise, changing it the way you guys suggest makes sense, but - as I said - for me it creates a different story.
But thank you very much for thinking about the picture and commenting with the ideas! I always appreciate it, as it is hard to have a "fresh" view on the own picture. So, huge thanks!

@vera365 Sometimes we need to accept there is an image that was not originally planed that might have more potential. If staying with your original layout, then tone down top right hand corner at the eye always gets drawn to the lightest areas. Alternatively you might be able to clone some of the other water into that top right corner.

I prefer this version to the square one and I think it is fine as it is. I can see what you see, a fairy/feminine image and I love the negative space because she has some where to fly to. The square version has nowhere to go. All I would change is the same as Mikhail @mikhasus suggests and that would be to crop the bottom of the picture slightly because then you get more of a sense of movement. Lovely shot and lovely title.

Thank you, KWind, Danette, Derek and Babs! I am actually amazed how much it can change the mood of the image just by turning it upside down. With this one, I associate hope, elegance, freedom. The other one is very masculine and dynamic in my eyes. Thank you for viewing and commenting! And Babs, thank you for the detailed suggestions.

I like it in this version, I would have also taken a little off the bottom and a tiny bit off from the right side. beautiful.

Yes, I have to agree with those who did not like the updated version. For me it throws the whole balance off. The negative space here works really well with the positive space of the petal and trees. Mikhail's suggestion is spot on- a little tighter crop and perhaps just a touch of dodging in the upper right- not erasing the highlight totally but just making it a little smaller (depending on how much you crop off). What I like on this is that there is a balance between positive/negative space and with the colors- light blue sky/dark orange-red petal. In the other picture the petal overpowers everything and looks out of place. Of course that's all my opinion and each person will process a shot a little differently because we don't all see things exactly the same (which is great!). So take all this with a grain of salt!

Thank you, Barbara, Ann, Gena and Jennifer!
I see the point of taking off a bit from the bottom and maybe off the right to give it a more of a "lift off" feeling! Thank you so much for viewing, thinking along and expression your opinion and commenting! This is a great help!

Thank you, Jan! It took a lot of back-and-forth on the composition, but ultimately, the common opinion (and mine too) was that this was the better version :) @jan20
