We spent the day digging for fossils in one of the quarries in the area. You come, get your digging tools and set off to work. Whatever you found, you can take home :) Kids were more than thrilled and have big plans of going back there at least 10 times before we move back to the US :) :) :) Adults were not less excited than kids. Car still needs unloading :)
Thanks for visiting!
@dyanstevens It's Quarry owned by Kromer family (Steinbruch Kromer) near Ohmden (which is not so far from Stuttgart). It is located in the same area as the Fossil Museum in Holzmaden that hosts a lot of wonderful finds. The museum itself has a little "quarry", but it's basically the broken stone brought from that bigger actual quarry to the outside area near museum. In the actual quarry you can rent a pick and a hammer for about 2 US dollars, and you can keep your finds. There are so many fossils everywhere!
My suggestions would be - bring a bag to howl your finds! Bring ring a lot of water, not only for drinking, but also for hand washing. Bring anything to snack on - there is no place to get food. The only thing it has is a small wagon at the entrance where you rend the tools and pay for the entry and one (not so clean) porta potty. There is also no shade, so on a hot summer day I would expect it to be quite hot. Here is their website: http://www.schieferbruch-kromer.de
@vera365 Hi Vera, wow I'm extremely glad you had a wonderful day and such great findings. And I'm a bit jealous too, as I would have liked to do some dirty stuff today.
@mona65 It was a great day - and it rained just in time so that we could get the kids stop digging and pack them in the car. Otherwise we would have had a hard time doing it. I have more pictures on Facebook - if you are on it, feel free to find me if you want "Vera Irwin".
Great shot!!!

@izzyromilly - YES! They are all real. It's very thrilling to be turning over each stone to see what's underneath.
