When we lived in Germany, we often had cold cuts and bread for dinner - Abendbrot - as the lunch is later than in the US and is a „real“ warm meal. All family loved that, but we don’t do it too often in the US, since you have to go a bit out of your way to get good bread. Also, the kids’ lunch at school is really early and they are hungry for a warm meal in the evening. But today, for my husband‘s birthday, we had a spontaneous Abendbrot feast and everyone enjoyed it a lot.
Fun top down shot, love the hands. I never knew that there was a word for bread, meat and cheese, it is my go to lazy yummy supper when I don't feel like cooking.
Abendbrot sounds wonderful and would be my favourite meal. Bought some really fresh sliced bread and some tender smoked ham with mustard. Easy to prepare and no dishes to wash!
When I was younger (you know back when we used candles to light) my mother started having lunch meats on Christmas day because the children weren't interested in a big meal and she would work hard and not much food eaten. But when we did lunch meat sandwiches with chips etc that they could but on a paper plate and go back to play they ate and there wasn't a lot of useless work by my mother. I miss those days. Good bread is essential.
i like that there are a couple of hands visible for scale and setting. when i first went to germany aged 17 i didn't much enjoy abendbrot, but when we lived there for a couple of years, got into it much more ... healthier, i think, to eat at midday and have something lighter in the evening ... note to self
