We were in Newport to watch my oldest son run a half marathon this weekend. This morning on the beach, I found a sight I have never seen before...rows and rows of formations from the wind. Some looked just like space ships, others were spinning tops, mushrooms, pottery. It was quite a sight!!! and my son was first in his division! a fun weekend with my son, his wife and my two oldest grandkids. oh and my husband too!
Congratulations to your son on taking his division! The wind is an amazing force if you have seen some of the sandstone formations in the American deserts. Great picture!
@khrunner it sure is! we went to the parks in Utah last spring. AMAZING...Arches, Bryce and the others...wow, they are outstanding...these formations were a smaller minute version of those. without that color...
@kathiecb I think they were formed over days...not night...since I have never seen them before, I can only speculate, but it appears that the tiny grains of sand blowing against them is what made them form. The dry sand on top is blowing over the wet sand from the stormy winter and as it keeps drying over days and days, I think that is how they come to be. But that is only my guess.
