I was about to pop out for lunch when I forgot my swipe card. I walked back to my desk to get it so I could leave the building for a walk in the warm sunshine, with my Canon compact in hand (well, in my man-bag). As I approached my desk, a bird flew head first into the window that's next to where I sit.
We all assumed that the bird must have seriously hurt itself - or worse. However, only a few seconds later the bird had plonked itself on to the window ledge. Of course I had to use this opportunity to take some snaps.
I got really close to the window and I must have taken over 30 shots. I was surprised that the pigeon let me get so close, despite the window between us. I narrowed it down to a few shots but simply could not decide between two, as I liked the detail of one and the composition of another. I went for detail.
Some of my colleagues were not impressed. Not because of the quality of the pictures, but because of their opinion on pigeons - I heard statements such as "flying vermin". Close up, I think that they're not as ugly as perhaps perceived. This pigeon was also interesting because it was owned by somebody, and was perhaps the reason it had let me get so close. It had a clip on one claw with a mobile phone number on it and the words "please phone", and on the other claw a registration number.
The incident was a minor distraction in an otherwise uneventful Friday at work.

Thanks all! No Kathleen, I didn't phone for him because the tag was literally wrapped around his ankle (if they have such a body part!) I couldn't read the whole number, only some of it. We tried to get it all to call but to no avail!
