Plantain is one of the most medicinal plants in the world. To date, over 200 species of plantain have been discovered and all types are medicinal and edible. In folk medicine, plantain was used for treating wounds, stopping bleeding, excreting mucus, strengthening the stomach and lowering elevated temperature.
In China, plantain was used 3000 years before Christ to treat many diseases. Ripe plantain leaves (fresh or dried) and the entire aerial part of the plant are used to prepare medicinal preparations.
