columbine by wiesnerbeth

columbine

Seven or eight years ago my neighbor Katina gave me a columbine plant for May Day. I love, love, love, flowers (as evidenced by my many flower photos) and my favorite job was at a gardening association, but I don't not have a green thumb. At all. I planted the columbines. Then they disappeared. Katina moved away. A few years later the columbine popped up on the other side of the sidewalk. Then it disappeared again. Last summer Katina moved back into the neighborhood. This afternoon I discovered this tiny columbine again. It had moved over to the driveway and was partially hidden by a Japanese maple. It was so nice to see it again. Don't you love the combination of the buttery yellow flower (it looks like a skirt with a little ruffle) and the violet petals? I like the little balls on the end of the spikes . . . they look like dots on an exclamation point.

Love how the top part comes together to look sort of like a crown!
