My friend Shannon invited me over to pick figs this morning. We had a little fig bush when we lived on Buena Court, but Shannon's figs grow on two huge trees. Actually she picked most of them for me .... she has a little hook thingy to pull the branches down so you can reach the figs. I picked the ones that short people can reach. I am all hot to try a recipe I saw with prosciutto, arugula, figs, and goat cheese. That's what I'm planning on taking for lunch the first day of school. Start on a high note, since we all know the lunches will rapidly be reduced to peanut butter and jelly and goldfish crackers.
We have several huge fig trees. I need one of those hook-y things! What a great idea. I don't like getting up on a ladder and reaching for them while worrying about bees that might be buzzing around (they like figs too).
