my mom . . . this explains a lot about us

I actually took this photo on Christmas Eve and it is a bit blurry because she is in the process of taking off my 4-year-old nephew's Spider-Man mask, but in a few minutes you will see why this is so fitting. Today is the Feast of the Holy Family and before the priest began his sermon he was telling a little story/joke about his family. He was talking about when he was a teenager and he realized how important it was to have family around during the holidays and he said something to his grandmother about what a good Christmas they had just had. To which his grandmother replied, "Well it was as good as it could be with the relatives we have." Apparently his grandmother could be a bit . . . sarcastic. So, the priest went on to give a very nice sermon about emulating the Holy Family and how we might not always appreciate he family we have, but I could barely keep from laughing partly because I was l was remembering the scene above from our Christmas Eve festivities and recalling what had happened during breakfast this morning.

Every morning when I am in Erie my mom and I have bagels and tea for breakfast. While we are eating we do sudoku or crosswords or jumbles or cryptograms or we read magazines. We usually have jam on our bagels but this morning she decided that we should try this orange cream cheese spread she had made a few days ago. So mom got out the cream cheese stuff, made her bagel and sat down to eat. While I was fixing my bagel she was complaining about how the cream cheese wasn't very sweet and didn't really taste like orange. I suggested adding some sugar to it. She continued to complain about the taste of the cream cheese until she had finished half her bagel and realized that it wasn't orange cream cheese . . . it was mayonnaise. Even while typing this I have busted out laughing several times (but silently because it is now 1:00 in the morning and everyone is sleeping). And this story may it be funny to the two of us but that's ok. This is as good as it gets for us . . . pretty darn good I think.
