. . . and it only took a year and ten months, give or take a week or two. I’m blaming that swoop in the bottom left corner on “the wind,” but the truth is that I’ve never really been able to square up a quilt.
Oh! It's wonderful! The patchy background and thin contrasting sashing moves my eye around the piece very effectively! Would love to know the names of the flowers. Have you given it a name?
@margonaut Thank you!
Row 1: daffodils, geranium, morning glory; Row 2: wild rose, hydrangea, snapdragons; Row 3: lupine, tulips, bluebells.
In the background I quilted the names of all the flowers (except hydrangea — realized after it was finished that I’d left that out), the titles of three favorite “garden” books (Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney, My Garden by Kevin Henkes, and The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett), and the names and locations of some of the many public gardens I’ve visited over the years.
I haven’t thought of a name yet. Maybe “Blooming” (that’s the partial title of another book I love, though that might be more suited to the next flower quilt I’m planning). I’m open if you have suggestions! The original patterns I designed were called “Down the Garden Path,” but I don’t love that. Maybe something referring to my nonexistent green thumb?!
oh my goodness, all that's in the background? I love hidden stuff! Knew more of them than I thought. And the only thing I can think of for a title would reference your family's habit of pilfering flowers, maybe "Stolen Goods" or "Things my Mother Steals", LOL!!!
@margonaut See, you are so clever! “Things My Mother Steals” is a contender! Although, now I’m thinking I should make a quilt with the specific things she takes — the only things she’s stolen that are on here is the hydrangeas and lupines. But I have lots of photos of her “stolen plant bouquets.” The only thing I came up with for this one was “Forget-Me-Not” because I was remembering all the different gardens we’ve been to over the years. Sentimental — but I guess that name could have a double meaning as “Sharon Leaves No Flower Left Behind.”
