I was up and down with my camera following a group of activist calling for government to act on “Saving the Maui Dolphins”. Maui dolphins are the world’s smallest and rarest marine dolphins and are only found in shallow coastal New Zealand water. Due to harmful fishing nets and other manmade threads such as seismic testing and oil extraction, the population of Maui dolphins are close to their extinction. The ceremonial outside parliament was very moving.
Great perspective.....gives importance of the group (to take the picture upwards)! Well captured! Too bad I can't join them! Dolphins are a favourite of mine and I don't even know about these! Thanks, Yao.
@deniseescovino so you have been to New Zealand? Akaroa is a great place to see dolphins. They are so cute and I am so sad to have realised that they are suffering from human fishing activities.
@yaorenliu Yes, I´ve been to NZ and it´s one of my favorite places in the world. I was in Christchurch and went for a whole trip around South Island, including Akaroa.. I have a good friend there. What a pity, those dolphins are so beautiful and and do no harm to anyone. People can be so cruel...
@deniseescovino Animals can be cruel, but it is not intentional. The cruelty of human is calculated and unforgiving.
South Island is the most beautiful place.
I read your exchange with Denise -- we were also fortunate to see them but it was about 15 years ago now. This is so sad to read that they are near extinction. I hope that the protestors are heard by those in power! It's a striking image.
