Wrong Exposure

One day I will get a quality backlit bird photograph.
Tag technique119 to set up a link.
But what is wrong with this one? What is it that you did not accomplish?

@monikozi My friend gave me the book by Andy Rouse who is very good in backlit wild life photography, his object does not lose details. My bird is too dark.

I'm guessing there's plenty of detail in that dark body to bring out with a little processing. I think you are on the right track!

@pusspup I am an old school, get the exposure right in the first place.

Good that you got it in focus

I would suggest getting comfortable with the camera exposure comp adjustment and map it so it is as easy to change as the shutter speed. It goes a long way to accomplish your vision when you can't control the light.(if you are using auto iso setting)

@teriyakih my shutter speed and aperture is fixed 3200 and 8 in the case because I have to accommodate the bird moving out of the focus point. The only thing I can changed here is the ISO, I was fooled by the bright surroundings,

@teriyakih no, no auto ISO, I want to control everything.

Yea I agree with Cat, also very tough since the bird is dark, I use the shadow bar in Lightroom to help me out.

Still a nice shot!
