Ande and I spent the day in Louisville touring their leg of the Bourbon Trail. The Louisville Bourbon District was officially launched in 2017 with an initiative that pays homage to Downtown Louisville’s rich bourbon history and recognizes the city’s current bourbon industry boom. We started at one end and walked 13 city blocks down Main Street through Whiskey Row to the other end. We made it to five distilleries and ended at the Frazier History Museum's gift shop.
Our second stop was Old Forester. The distillery returned home in 2018 to Whisky Row and opened at 119 West Main Street, housed in the same building that the brand called home from 1882 – 1919. Old Forester Distillery is the only downtown distillery which houses an active cooperage, charring barrels in the same facility where spirits are being aged. It was a very cool building with excellent displays and a gift shop. I look forward to going back and spending more time at each place next time we go back.
