A, B, or C? Please pick!

August 10th, 2012
Hi! I am hoping to enter the Balboa Park Top Dog Contest. Submissions are due in a couple of days and these are my favorite photos from today's photoshoot. I like each of these for various reasons and dislike for others. In A I love the colors but the pup is not in great focus and it's kind of snapshot-y. In B I love the shot of Jedi but you can't tell whats behind him and people should be able to recognize Balboa Park. And C has the best Balboa look, but is not the greatest of Jedi with him not looking at the camera. Any opinions? Vote for your favorite please! Entry is due in a few days...

C,
With my own, I try to pick the photo that has all the elements required, will get a good gut reaction from the viewers, imagine it framed and try to picture it on a brochure for the area. C has the recognizable tower, the palm trees and a dog. All are easy to see and tell what they are.

I like C!

I like A...cute of the dog!

I like C. I think the background in the first two shots fights with the dog for attention. But in C the background is the background, yet you still recognize the building. It doesn't bother me so much that he's not looking at the photographer (that would be ideal), but it's a handsome profile in its own right. mho Best wishes for the competition!

@kdclaypool I would say A, B seems to have blown out sky and I strange thing growing out of the dogs head :P and C I 'm draw to the out of focus building before the dog.

I think I prefer C as well

Well, I like A best unless the focus issue is really bad full size

If it is, then definitely C

But the face and ears on the dog are cuter in A, and the color and composition is great...

B, I really don't like the vast, white sky and how the photo is practically divided in half

C is good, I just like the dog better in A

I just increased the viewing % on my screen to see what the shots look like larger and I think C has the advantage; I don't think it matters that Jedi isn't looking at the camera, presumably you have to title your entry so maybe you can think of a reason for him looking off camera. Good luck:0)

Definitely C! Looking away from the camera is good; it allows the viewer to look over the dog's shoulder at what is really important without being distracted by the presence of the camera.

I like C also, the composition is best in this one.

C for me too.

C. The dog is closer. The dog is looking away from the building, as if to say that that subject is not important to him/her. The dog is more prominent because the background is not as clear.

Funny. It's seems to depend on the first comment :-) Here it's all C but one and in your album just the other way around. It won't help you much I guess. Except for count out B of course.
I think it's a hard choice! A is 'just' a photo of a dog in a not so interesting surrounding. Although I do like the layering. And a big pro is the dog watching the camera. I think it will help to crop the image square from the center. You lose the distracting belt and the overexposed sky. It'll make the composition much more interesting.
B. is probably not exciting enough. The sky is all white and the tower grows out of the dog's head, which is very distracting once you notice that.
C. is a difficult image too. I do not mind the dog looking away but it's looking out of the image. That's a shame. Also I think it would be better if it looked to the right since that is the way your eye scans the image at first. Maybe mirroring helps. The background lacks some vividness and except for the tower there is no equivalent counterpart in the image. I think the composition is wrong and the dog should be in the center here, looking to the right.
All that said, my choice would be A.

Not B, not only is the background washed out but the dog has a building sticking out of his head!

Either A or C. A has a distracting leash so it looks a little posed... C the background is a little washed out and the dog is not looking at the camera...

Probably A

I really like C and his attitude which says to me 'here I am again in this park and now you want me to pose for a photo'.

Definitely not B, because of the building directly behind his head but also his ears appear to become part of the fence! I like both A & C, but maybe A. What if you cropped the front slightly to take out the lead?
August 11th, 2012
I like the composition of C the best, and his expression.
August 11th, 2012
C has it all and your dog looks great..prefer him to look away from the camera. now go girl and win this. good luck.
August 12th, 2012
Tough shot to take, Black Dog and bright light on the background, can make things look a little overexposed. I like C.
August 12th, 2012
A my fav .............. but B made me laugh the most ............looks like a strange type of dog type tower hat LOL
August 12th, 2012
It's tough to choose, but I think C is the best! (Make it a double vote 'cause my friend who does not have 365 agrees with me!)

C is a good one but needs to be cropped on the right so the background building is just on the edge, that will balance your composition and normalise his position, the unposed looking one are best, try the crop thing and see what you think
August 27th, 2012
I like the composition in C the best. Even if the dog is not looking this one works best for me.
