To me photography is capturing something that usually the human eye don't normally see. Also Capturing that special moment that rarely happens. HOW ABOUT YOU?
At the moment almost an obsession, everywhere I go nowadays looking for interesting compositions or quirky angles - a lot of this due to the 365 project, but also looking for an avenue for self improvement. It makes the things that usually get taken for granted become so much more, just from looking through a lens
First, the fun of spending time looking through photo albums of captured events with family during a holiday. Second, Using landscape scenes and flowers and buildings captured, as references and inspirations for paintings. Third, I think all the albums and stacks of captured memories will be a great comfort and entertainment when my husband and I are old and home bound, if we make that long. We can look through them and remember all the things we did and trips we took during our marriage. Fourth, the fun of going out and exploring just to get that good shot.
Photography to me is an escape from the stress of work and an adventure of always seeing composition everywhere I go now...I am always on the search and when I share one of my finds such as this I am blown away at how I have just shared a moment in time with the world and its those lovely reactions to this that inspire me to continue my search...I truly love photography and to be honest my only regret is not discovering this joy of photography earlier in my life...this is a a very rewarding hobby and the best stress relief that I can count on...
Photography for me is showing people through my eyes, i can't paint but this only way i can do it, not good at writting but people say my photos are good?
Definitely a form of information, expression ...and education! Carrying a camera opens the eyes and the mind to the world around us like no other medium.
To me, photography is art -- without getting too messy. I also paint and that can be a real hassle! Especially oils. Photography is another version of painting, without getting my hands dirty. ;-)
Photography tells a story, it captures that perfect moment with loved ones, also it is an escape from the stress of life. I began this journey to help me become focused and commit to the very end, hopefully i will be able to transfer this skill in to my everyday life situations.
I was watching a tv show today on happiness and it discussed the concept of mindfulness, "bringing one’s complete attention to the present experience on a moment-to-moment basis, and involves
paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment."
This can be an important factor in our happiness and when I saw it I thought - that is exactly what photography is to me, it takes me to that place where I am thinking only about what I am seeing and appreciating it :)
It's so many things. When I first began this project it was my life boat out of depression. But as I've always been a creative person it also became my voice and an artistic way for me to not only see the world, but to share it with others. Many times it becomes an extension of who I am inside. But it has also broadened my world- helped me to see places I've never seen before, "hear" people I've never met before and to share a piece of our day together. It has the power to evoke many emotions but also to view life with a detached eye. It's more than a hobby or obsession, it's a passion and an outlet. It's something that keeps me going when life looks bleak and there is nothing "to do". It gets me to look up and around (and sometimes even down!). It's outside of me and inside me. It can be spiritual, adventurous, and frustrating, but I can't see myself going through a day without it in some way, shape, or form. Photography has become the legacy I will leave my grandchildren. I hope that some day they will see these pictures and remember, "She always had a camera near by!" Great question!!
Photgraphy is something just for me....
From photograhy I get some 'me' time, oppurtunties to be creative, follow an interest and join projects like 365 which I am finding challenging but thoroughly enjoyable.
I am still learning a lot about my camera and techniques etc...
I have decided not to limit myself at all and to photograph whatever comes along on the day...
My camera is coming everywhere with me now, like an extension of my own body, if ever it broke I dont know what I'd do....

Loved your response to the question, I can totally understand your feelings about photography and I'm glad you find it therapeutic, I do too x
I'll try to express what photography is for me in a simple way (English is not my native tongue). I share many of the views expressed above; in particular, I've always liked to take pictures while travelling. Then I took a basic photography course last year and I discovered there's much more to it than nice, "postcard" like pictures of what I considered beautiful, worth being photographed and being remembered.
Now I think It's about reality, how you see it, how you are able to interpret it and render it. It appeals to your creativity and it's a real challenge.
I'm learning a lot and still have a lot to learn, this project and the 365ers are helping me, indeed.
it is simply capturing a moment that would otherwise never exist again. Sometimes we see something that will never repeat... This is special. If we capture it on 'film' then everyone else in the world can enjoy that 1/16th of a second that would have otherwise gone unnoticed.
I have been the photographer in the family for years. It is a way for me NOT to be in the shots. I'm not professional in any way but I know what kind of shots I like to look at and I hope others do to. The funny thing is I usually don't go hunting down shots, they seem to fall in my lap most of the time. It is better than singing/teaching music classes or directing bands everyday which is what i did for 34 years. Plus I'm not a knitter or needlepoint kind of gal, so what else does a "more mature" lady do in her spare time besides read? Photography has opened my eyes to the simple beauty of everything around me.
I love it!
Showing beauty that people wouldn't ordinarily see,
Viewing the world in a different light
paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment."

Plus, yesterday I spent an hour playing with toy soldiers. What's not to like about that.
