I have been looking all afternoon for an affordable unwanted object removal programme. I generally use Photos (Mac) for editing and spot removal - but it is not the best for some larger bits and pieces - buoys, telephone poles etc. I don't have PS - not expert enough with in-camera settings to begin to unravel PS yet, so looking for a mid-way editing tool in the meantime. Have found Inpaint and Movavi - but not sure if they are any good or just a waste of money. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Karen.
Kas, in picmonkey under the magic wand pic (2nd option down) scroll all the way down to the very bottom is the 'clone' option. This can be used to copy parts of photo to cover over what you don't want there, it works the same way as PS.
Hi Kas
On the ones I've tested I found SnapHeal to be the most like Photoshops healing brush. The results are about the same. Its on the app store and quite cheap.
@stephanies Thanks Stephanie. I had a look, and it seems I can only use Picmonkey after I've loaded the image onto 365 and then edit in Picmonkey. It seems to be a Windows platform rather than Mac - although I think there are third party extensions available, but not too sure about that. @ianforbes Thanks Ian - I'll go and have a look.
@grammyn Thanks Katy. I'll go and look at that one too. @markp Thanks Mark - interestingly, I downloaded that one earlier, and then noted the extra costs.
@wag864 I got it a while ago with the clone tool free, its still on the old Mac.
When I got a new Mac I had to pay to get the clone tool, I did wonder if I could have copied the old version to the new one. Shame it's the clone tool you are after.
@yorkshirekiwi@ianforbes I downloaded snapheal and it worked wonders! Used it on my latest image 'Listen! Can you hear the bagpipes'. I also managed to remove the rope that was tying the boat to the large rock in the foreground.
@wag864 Hi Kas! I use iPiccy that has a good clone tool. It works both with Mac and Windows (I have tried both) and is quite effective. I used it to cancel a lamp and a wire in my Silouhettes against the sunset. I highly recommend it. It's FREE!
@wag864 Kas, I keep my pictures in "Windows Live Photo Gallery" on my computer and you can download it for free.
It has a "retouch" tool that works really well for me when I want to clone out a light pole or get spots out of the sky, etc. It's really easy to use, too.
Gimp photo editor
Open source and free.
Similar to photoshop.
It is awesome but has a steep learning curve if you want to do clever things like layers ... https://www.gimp.org/
@wag864 when you upload your image to 365 there is a box to select whether your picture is public or restricted. I can't quite remember the total wording but i think it won't then be seen by people on the site and you can edit it in pic monkey and resave it and then make it public.
@caterina@mittens@olivetreeann@kiwinanna@phil_howcroft@jennywren Thank you for all your help and suggestions. I have downloaded a few of the options mentioned to see what does what. Jen, I'll have a look when I next upload to see what I need to do to work with Picmonkey. Huge thank you everyone!
@stephomy I use GMP, Darktable and Rawtherapee depending upon what I am editing !!! Darktable appears to be my fav of the three :)
(I run Linux / Ubuntu...but I am not that geeky / techiie)
