Free Software

January 24th, 2024
During the month of January ON1 software is giving away ON1 Effects 2023. Free, no strings attached, lifetime ownership. I discovered this from a YouTube channel that I follow so I took advantage of the offer. It can be used as a stand alone program or as a plugin for Lightroom, Photoshop, Affinity, Capture 1 and Corel. I don’t think it works with Luminar. I have played around with it a little bit and while I’m not sure it will become part of my regular workflow it is quite powerful and has some interesting features that I like. Bottom line - the price is right. What have you got to lose? Obviously ON1 will be sending you emails urging you to upgrade but you can unsubscribe from those. If getting free software appeals to you I have attached the link.

Here is an excellent YouTube video for using ON1 Effects. The video starts off using ON1 Effects as a Lightroom plugin but if you don't have Lightroom then at the 39 minute mark it demonstrates using it as a stand alone.

@cdcook48 Thank so much Chris, Mags @marlboromaam mentioned it a few days ago but I did not have the time to look into it. which are the interesting features that appeal to you Chris? I will check it out now :-)

@ludwigsdiana It has a number of interesting looking presets all of which can be adjusted to suit. It has an intriguing object selection tool for selective adjustments. If you prefer not to use presets it provides filters to build up your own look. I haven't had a chance to really put it through its paces yet but it looks interesting. I don't think there is anything it can do that can't be done in Lightroom or Photoshop but I can see myself using it from time to time. I also think the learning curve is probably a lot shorter for those who don't have LR or PS. For those who might be thinking of giving post processing a try this is a zero risk solution

@cdcook48 Thanks Chris, I just had a quick look as I don't have much time atm. There are plenty of tutorials too. It sure looks interesting and I probably would use it quite often as it seems very quick and easy ;-)

Thanks for the info Chris. I also used this a number of years back. Upgrading computers wiped out a lot of old programs.
