@danielwsc and I picked Contrast as the next element of composition we're focusing on. We do it for an entire month to make sure we get good and tired of it :) I mean, thoroughly explore it and master it!
You are welcome to join us! Tag your photos with may-contrast . If you'd like, post them here. Also, if you see someone else's photo from the tag page and really like it go ahead and post that here too.
Contrast can mean:
* The difference between light and dark, more contrast has greater extremes and less grey.
* The relationship between the colors in a shot, so understanding what is the complement of a color is involved.
* Contrasts in scale--the size of different elements in the shot.
* Contrast between the elements themselves.
* Textures.
* Lines--pulling different directions.
Blue and yellow are complements on the light color-wheel (although more of an amber than this cold yellow) and I think they do contrast quite nicely. I'm not sure how successful my crop is, but I wanted to try something different.
I raised this to f/9 and the only post processing is I pumped up the contrast a little using GIMP. Using depth of field is my new work in progress. I like how it effects the contrast.
@gunilla_nyborg Look to the right of your picture, scroll down to where it says "Share" and you should see a little box that says "copy and paste code". Copy the whole code and paste in your reply.

@anwan
then some guy wandered along and dared to use the escalator. How thoughtless!
Bright vs. dark:
Nature vs Urban:

Contrast between reality and reflection
@smithak , I really like that tonal contrast, The texture is so rich too.
I'll be back later to look at the rest! Feel free to comment amongst yourselves, too :)
Contrast between hair, shirt, and the rest of the picture. I like this one quite a bit.
near/far, light/dark, hard/soft, permanent/ephemeral, heavy/light, color/monochrome, angular/fuzzy
May 2:

Contrast natural light and dark on this rock formation
This is one I got over the weekend :-)
:) Here's my shot.
Contrast between big and small
the structuredness of the crane vs cloudiness
... the contrast between what you think it's for and what it's actually for :o)
There is visual contrast between the cobalt blue sky, the silver sphere and the struts and supports of this structure.
(fairly obvious, I think)
Contrast of focus on the elements of the phtograph.
