52 Week Challenge: Week 20/May 15th - Technical: Sky Overlay

May 14th, 2017
Hey everyone,

Tomorrow, Monday 15th May sees us into Week 20 of the 52 Week Challenge, and this time, our theme is:

Technical: Sky Overlay

Sometimes the sky just doesn’t cooperate. This week replace the sky in your image. If you need a sky to use in the replacement, search flickr.com for an image to use under Creative Commons Licensing.

Tag: 52wc-2017-w20

This is a technique I haven’t tried before, but I’ve seen so many really cool images using overlays so it should be fun to try out. I did a quick search for some tutorials – the links are below. If anyone has any favourite how-to’s, or any tips for us overlay newbies, please feel free to chime in!

If you’re not using your own image for the sky, two alternatives to Flickr for CC0 images that I also like, are Pixabay and Pexels.
For images under the CC0 license, attribution is not compulsory, but it’s always good manners to give the original artist a mention.

Remember to tag your images with this week’s tag, and feel free to share them here in the comments.

If you’ve just discovered the 52 Week Challenge and you’re eager to jump on board, find out everything you need to know here on the original discussion thread which has a list of the themes, dates and tags for each week:

If you’d like me to tag you each week when I’m publishing a reminder with the weekly theme, drop me a comment and I will add you to the tag list – or if you’re on the list already but would like to stop receiving the notifications, also comment below.

Until next week…

The original had a terribly blown out sky, so made a good subject to practice with sky replacement
