52 Week Challenge?

January 6th, 2017
Forgive me if this has already been discussed - I looked but couldn't find any threads about it.

Will anyone be doing the 52 Week Challenge for 2017? I know some of us were following the themes on the Dogwood Photography website last year... any thoughts about doing the same this year?

I didn't finish mine for 2016 but would like to have another go.
The 2017 themes are here:
https://dogwood.photography/52weekchallenge2017.html

UPDATE:
Ok, I've added a list of the weekly themes, dates & tags below, for anyone who is interested.
Original challenge info can be found at these two sites:
https://dogwood.photography/52weekchallenge2017.html
http://www.diyphotography.net/52-week-photography-challenge-2017/

And last years post, which was started by @vera365 is here in case anyone is curious:
http://365project.org/discuss/general/27013/fifty-two-week-challenge-let-s-do-it-together

So without further ado, here is the 2017 list of weekly themes:

Week 1: Jan 2nd
Story: Rule of Thirds
The rule of thirds is the first compositional rule most photographers learn; but most don’t know why they learn it. The rule of thirds is amazing for telling a story. Tell a story using rule of thirds.

I did a few of the themes last year, but puttered out on it. Still, I love the variety and think I'll bookmark this. I may not do every week, but anything to motivate me for a shot, I'll take right now!
January 6th, 2017
@emrob This is my thinking on it too - really trying to get my inspiration back so I'll use all the cues I can get! What I liked about last year was that it was fairly relaxed and no pressure, if you wanted to skip a week nobody minded ;)
January 6th, 2017
I also started last year but lost interest after it got quite repetitive... looks like better variety this year so I might give it a go again...
January 6th, 2017
I know the feeling - I lost interest last year too. I will try to do better this year.
January 6th, 2017
Yes, I was looking at it the other day and think I will give it a go.
January 6th, 2017
I will give it a go (again). I also lost my focus with it last year so maybe I can be better this year.

Is this different to what @Scrivna has set up??

January 6th, 2017
Here is the link for the 2017 challenge

January 6th, 2017
maybe we should come up with 365's very own 52-week challenge which is along the lines/themes of the dogwood challenge. i have had a look at the 2017 challenge but most of it is out of my league. last year's was easy enough although i missed the one week in December. if most of the people petered out of it, despite periodic reminders, the 2017 might or might not have the same effect.
January 6th, 2017
@30pics4jackiesdiamond Yes I think it's a little different in that it's more of a personal challenge, there was no voting or winners each week last year, so no pressure to have to host the next one if you won!

Also, the list is provided at the start of the year, so you can see in advance what the themes are instead of waiting for the next one to be announced. I think the 52 week challenge that I linked to is followed by people on lots of photography sites and groups, not just 365 :)
January 6th, 2017
@olivetreeann Ah I see, it's the same list and they mention the dogwood challenge, I just automatically linked to the site that was in the original post from last year.
January 6th, 2017
@northy @la_photographic @stephanies @joysabin @summerfield Seems like a lot of us started it last year but lost interest...
For me, I just got too busy and even my regular project went by the wayside for a few months, but I like some of the themes in this years list. That said I know some of them will be a big challenge for me but I guess that's how you learn isn't it!
January 7th, 2017
I started it this year. I did just a couple last year.
January 7th, 2017
I followed it last year. I was late getting one of the themes in November; but I got them all, and all but the one in the week it should have been. I did forget to tag my last one until just the other day.
I think there were only 3 of us that completed the whole series last year. It was quite discouraging to have so many drop out.
January 7th, 2017
I'm planning on running that challenge alongside my 365. I'm hoping to dedicate Wednesdays here to posting that challenge's photo and did so already this week. I think there's a lot to be learned with some of those challenges and look forward to having grown from that experience as well as another 365 in the books!
January 7th, 2017
Here is the link which I found as the one above did not seem to work... http://www.diyphotography.net/52-week-photography-challenge-2017/

Like Terri @girlincamo I am thinking about picking a specific day of the week to use this as a theme regularly for that day of the week. Looking forward to this learning experience - good luck everyone!
January 7th, 2017
Thanks for the links, think I might join
January 7th, 2017
Do we have a tag for this year's challenge?
January 7th, 2017
@emrob Last year the tags were in this format 52wc-2017-w1, 52wc-2017-w2 etc. Will we stick to that? I'll edit my original post with tag info and a list of the themes for handiness maybe...
January 7th, 2017
Sounds good! Thanks!
January 7th, 2017
@emrob @northy @la_photographic @stephanies @joysabin @30pics4jackiesdiamond @olivetreeann @summerfield @tracys @bill_fe @girlincamo @brett101 @hunnybee I have updated my original post above to include a list of the weekly themes, with dates & tags.
January 7th, 2017
Thanks
January 7th, 2017
Thank you @m2016
January 7th, 2017
That all looks a bit beyond me!!!

Think I'll see what Ross has planned for 365 themes for the year and hope he's sympathetic to those who are still learning and who are technical newbies on post processing!!

Thanks Mel, good luck with your weekly themes project! @m2016
January 7th, 2017
@m2016 I'll give it a shot.
January 7th, 2017
tx for getting this going Mel... i hope i can stick it out this year... i haven't looked at the full list yet, but the first few look interesting! i wonder if it would be helpful to post a reminder each week? or even a separate post with the specific challenge for the week?
January 7th, 2017
@northy Good idea, will do. I know I found it very easy to forget last year if I wasn't being reminded. Hopefully I'll stay on track with it too this time around...
January 8th, 2017
@m2016 - That is too perfect, thanks Mel! I was looking for a weekly theme (last year I did Monochrome Mondays) and this is the one I will use this year for Saturdays. I look forward to participating in anything that you put together. Hae fun everyone and I look forward to the contributions!
January 8th, 2017
Wow, that's a big list... I dobt if I will do every week but I am happy to give some a go.
January 8th, 2017
@m2016 this looks great. I'll give it a go, even though I'm a bit late for week 1 :) I want to use 365 this year to learn more, this will definitely challenge me!
January 8th, 2017
I kept forgetting to tag for this challenge last year but will try to be more consistent this year. Having a weekly reminder would be very helpful.
@m2016 Thanks for putting this list together - will be a great help I'm sure.
January 8th, 2017
I am doing the Dogwood challenge 2017 ...... at least for now! :)
January 8th, 2017
@willowdragon Cool - would you like me to tag you when I post weekly reminders?
January 8th, 2017
@m2016 You can do ...... I am going to try and come on here once a week. I will be tagging my photo's "Dogwood17" :)
January 8th, 2017
@willowdragon You could throw in an extra tag - we're using a set of different ones just on 365 that specify which week we're on...
See here for this weeks tag & discussion :)

January 8th, 2017
@m2016 Will check them out .... thanks! :)
January 9th, 2017
Thanks for putting up the whole list, Mel. I am keen to do it this year. I participated on and off last year. Really didn't like the portrait weeks so it all fell apart. Although I haven't been though the list properly, I do like what I have seen. If you are going to do some reminders please tag me. Thanks
January 10th, 2017
I'm going to give it a shot, too. I'd love a tag. Thanks!
February 5th, 2017
Thanks! Started last year as well but liked this place better. Do want to do the challenge though as I know it will help me to grow so much.
May 11th, 2017
Please add my name. Thanks.
October 3rd, 2017

October 3rd, 2017
It's not clear to me how and where I should post my contribution to the dogwood challenge this would be Tag: 52wc-2017-w40
Any help from the community? Thanks
October 3rd, 2017
@caterina Hi Caterina, I think generally people just tag their images, and then anyone viewing with the tag for the current week can see them. Also, when I post a weekly reminder, I always invite everyone to post their images for the week in the comments below the post - some post, some choose not to. I hope this helps somewhat :)
October 3rd, 2017
@m2016 thank you. I posted it!
