Forgive me if this has already been discussed - I looked but couldn't find any threads about it.
Will anyone be doing the 52 Week Challenge for 2017? I know some of us were following the themes on the Dogwood Photography website last year... any thoughts about doing the same this year?
I didn't finish mine for 2016 but would like to have another go.

Story: Rule of Thirds
The rule of thirds is the first compositional rule most photographers learn; but most don’t know why they learn it. The rule of thirds is amazing for telling a story. Tell a story using rule of thirds. Tag: 52wc-2017-w1
Week 2: Jan 9th
Technical: SOOC
Straight out of the Camera. No Photoshop. Shoot a compelling image and post it without edits. No cheating! (Be sure and save the image file for the end of the challenge!) Tag: 52wc-2017-w2
Week 3: Jan 16th
Artistic: Land
Your inspiration this week is land. This could be a landscape, or an image inspired by the land in some way. Tag: 52wc-2017-w3
Week 4: Jan 23rd
Story: Mirror
Tell a story using a mirror. Tag 52wc-2017-w4
Week 5: Jan 30th
Technical: Ten Shots
Shoot 10 shots of the same subject. Each shot should be from a different angle, distance, and focal length. Share your favourite image from the set. Tag: 52wc-2017-w5
Week 6: Feb 6th
Artistic: Candy
A throwback to one of the favorite weeks of the original challenge. Your artistic inspiration this week is candy. Since this is the advanced challenge… you can’t actually use candy in the scene. Tag: 52wc-2017-w6
Week 7 : Feb 13th
Story: Forgotten
Abandoned was a very popular week in the original challenge. For the advanced challenge tell the story of something forgotten. Tag: 52wc-2017-w7
Week 8 : Feb 20th
Technical: One Shot
Imagine that it is the last frame on a roll of film, and you have to nail it. For this challenge only take one shot. No deleting, no 2nd shot. The honor system is in play. Tag: 52wc-2017-w8
Week 9: Feb 27th
Artistic: Still Life
Your inspiration this week is Still Life. A couple of pieces of fruit on a table won’t impress in the advanced challenge though… so really be creative. Tag: 52wc-2017-w9
Week 10 : March 6th
Story: Perspective
Perspective for the purpose of this challenge is the relationship of objects in the scene. If you really want a challenge this is a good chance to use forced perspective. Tag: 52wc-2017-w10
Week 11: March 13th
Technical: Split Tone
Split Tone is an editing technique where the shadows are toned one color, and the highlights a second color. Split toning is often used with color grading in the media to give a scene a desired look and feel. Tag: 52wc-2017-w11
Week 12 : March 20th
Artistic: Orange
Your inspiration this week is orange. Either the color orange or an actual orange. Or both. Tag: 52wc-2017-w12
Week 13: March 27th
Story: Golden Hour
The golden hour is the hour before sunset or after sunrise when the sun casts amazing golden tones. Find a way to use the golden hour to tell a story. Tag: 52wc-2017-w13
Week 14 : April 3rd
Technical: Panning
Use the technique of panning to capture a subject in movement. Panning is using a slower shutter speed while following the subject with the camera to create the sense of movement in an image. Tag: 52wc-2017-w14
Week 15: April 10th
Artistic: Hard
Your artistic inspiration this week is hard. Hard is both an adjective and an adverb. Interpret this how you wish. Tag: 52wc-2017-w15
Week 16 : April 17th
Story: leading Lines
Leading Lines are a very important compositional element that every photographer needs to master. Use leading lines to tell a story. No train tracks. Tag: 52wc-2017-w16
Week 17: April 24th
Technical: Loop Lighting
Loop lighting is one of the most used portrait lighting techniques. Shoot a portrait using loop lighting. If you don’t have an off camera flash setup, get creative with how you light your subject. Tag: 52wc-2017-w17

Artistic: Purple
Your inspiration this week is purple. Purple is the color of royalty, magic, and mystery. Tag: 52wc-2017-w18

Story: Back Yard

Technical: Sky Overlay
Sometimes the sky just doesn’t cooperate. This week replace the sky in your image. If you need a sky to use in the replacement, search flickr.com for an image to use under Creative Commons Licensing. Tag: 52wc-2017-w20
Week 21: May 22nd
Artistic: Soft
Your artistic inspiration this week is soft. Just like hard earlier in the challenge, soft is both and adjective and an adverb. Interpret this how you will. Tag: 52wc-2017-w21
Week 22: May 29th
Story: Geometric Shapes
Triangles, squares, and circles. They are all very strong compositional elements in an image. Find a way to use geometric shapes in your storytelling. Tag: 52wc-2017-w22
Week 23: June 5th
Technical: F/8 Portrait
Shoot a portrait using an aperture setting of F/8. Since this is the advanced challenge, be sure to find a way to isolate your subject other than shallow depth of field. Tag: 52wc-2017-w23
Week 24: June 12th
Artistic: Green
Your inspiration this week is green. Green is the color of life, nature, and hope. Tag: 52wc-2017-w24
Week 25: June 19th
Story: Toy Story
Not the movie! Tell a story with toys or about toys. (Kind of like the movie…) Tag: 52wc-2017-w25
Week 26: June 26th
Technical: Light Painting
Put your camera on a tripod at night, open the shutter for 30 seconds, and paint your subject with light. Flashlights, LED strips, and even laser pointers work great. Tag: 52wc-2017-w26
Week 27: July 3rd
Artistic: Communication
Your inspiration this week is communication. We live in the age of endless communication, so there is inspiration everywhere. Tag: 52wc-2017-w27
Week 28: July 10th
Story: Portrait as Landscape
Shoot a portrait that is posing as a landscape. Tell a story of the subject using the landscape around them. Fool the viewer. Tag: 52wc-2017-w28
Week 29: July 17th
Technical: Water Drop
Photographing a water drop is a mix of lighting, macro, and patience. There are plenty of ways to pull this off, enjoy figuring it out! Tag: 52wc-2017-w29
Week 30: July 24th
Artistic: Family
In the last challenge you shot a family portrait. This time use family as your inspiration. Since this is the advanced challenge no people can be in the image. Tag: 52wc-2017-w30
Week 31: July 31st
Story: Frame Within a Frame
Another classic compositional tool is to frame the subject within the frame of the image. Use this technique this week to tell your story. Tag: 52wc-2017-w31
Week 32: August 7th
Technical: HDR
HDR is the technique of combining several photos of the same scene but shot at different exposures to create an image with a High Dynamic Range. Tag: 52wc-2017-w32
Week 33: August 14th
Artistic: High Key
High Key was one of the most interesting during the last challenge. Last time it was a portrait; this time it is back as inspiration. Tag: 52wc-2017-w33
Week 34: August 21st
Story: Stranger
Tell the story of a stranger. Try using their environment to really inform the viewer of their story. Tag: 52wc-2017-w34
Week 35: August 28th
Technical: Stitched Panorama
A stitched panorama is an image made up of several smaller images stitched together during editing. For an added challenge try using the Brenizer Method. Tag: 52wc-2017-w35
Week 36: Sept 4th
Artistic: Low Key
Low Key is the opposite of High Key. Shoot an image where most of the tonal range is on left side of the histogram. Tag: 52wc-2017-w36
Week 37: Sept 11th
Story: Balance
Balance is the compositional technique of giving each area in a scene equal visual weight. You can achieve balance using color, tone, or juxtaposed subjects. Tag: 52wc-2017-w37
Week 38: Sept 18th
Technical: 50mm
Learn to sneaker zoom! Shoot an image using only the 50mm Focal Length. Either use a fixed 50mm lens or set your zoom lens to 50mm. Since this is the advanced challenge make sure the image is compelling. Tag: 52wc-2017-w38
Week 39: Sept 25th
Art: Water
Your inspiration this week is water. Interpret this how you will. Tag: 52wc-2017-w39
Week 40: Oct 2nd
Story: Colorful B & W
Tell the story of a colorful scene. Because this is the advanced challenge, no flowers. Do it in Black and White. Tag: 52wc-2017-w40

Technical: Levitation
Levitation is part camera trick and part photoshop. Create an interesting levitation image this week. Tag: 52wc-2017-w41

Artistic: Music

Week 43: Oct 23rd
Story: Movement
Capturing and creating movement in a still photo is a challenge for every photographer. Use movement this week to tell a story. Tag: 52wc-2017-w43
Week 44: Oct 30th
Technical: Magic ND Filter
Use an ND filter combined with a shutter speed of 30 seconds or even longer to create your image. Try a waterscape or even a busy landmark to see the magic happen. Tag: 52wc-2017-w44

Artistic: Cold
Your inspiration this week is cold. Interpret this how you want. Tag: 52wc-2017-w45
Week 46: Nov 13th
Story: Landscape Foreground
Many stories are based around portraits, but landscapes can have stories also. Tell the story of a landscape by using the foreground as the subject and the background as the scene. Tag: 52wc-2017-w46

Technical: Shaped Bokeh
Bokeh was one of people’s favorite weeks. This year take it a step further and create a scene using shaped bokeh. Tag: 52wc-2017-w47

Artistic: Bodyscape
The human form has been the study of art since art was first inspired. Your inspiration this week is the human body. Tag: 52wc-2017-w48
Week 49: Dec 4th
Story: Blue Hour
The Blue Hour is the hour after sunset or the hour before sunrise when the sky is dominated by amazing blue and purple hues. Use this to tell your story this week. Tag: 52wc-2017-w49
Week 50: Dec 11th
Technical: Full Edit
Use the SOOC shot from the beginning of the challenge and re-edit it to it’s full glory. If that shot isn’t available feel free to re-edit any of your past work. Tag: 52wc-2017-w50

Artistic: Fear
Fear is your inspiration this week. Find a way to show fear in a way that your viewer feels it. Tag: 52wc-2017-w51

I did a few of the themes last year, but puttered out on it. Still, I love the variety and think I'll bookmark this. I may not do every week, but anything to motivate me for a shot, I'll take right now!
@emrob This is my thinking on it too - really trying to get my inspiration back so I'll use all the cues I can get! What I liked about last year was that it was fairly relaxed and no pressure, if you wanted to skip a week nobody minded ;)
maybe we should come up with 365's very own 52-week challenge which is along the lines/themes of the dogwood challenge. i have had a look at the 2017 challenge but most of it is out of my league. last year's was easy enough although i missed the one week in December. if most of the people petered out of it, despite periodic reminders, the 2017 might or might not have the same effect.
@30pics4jackiesdiamond Yes I think it's a little different in that it's more of a personal challenge, there was no voting or winners each week last year, so no pressure to have to host the next one if you won!
Also, the list is provided at the start of the year, so you can see in advance what the themes are instead of waiting for the next one to be announced. I think the 52 week challenge that I linked to is followed by people on lots of photography sites and groups, not just 365 :)

For me, I just got too busy and even my regular project went by the wayside for a few months, but I like some of the themes in this years list. That said I know some of them will be a big challenge for me but I guess that's how you learn isn't it!
I followed it last year. I was late getting one of the themes in November; but I got them all, and all but the one in the week it should have been. I did forget to tag my last one until just the other day.
I think there were only 3 of us that completed the whole series last year. It was quite discouraging to have so many drop out.
I'm planning on running that challenge alongside my 365. I'm hoping to dedicate Wednesdays here to posting that challenge's photo and did so already this week. I think there's a lot to be learned with some of those challenges and look forward to having grown from that experience as well as another 365 in the books!
Like Terri @girlincamo I am thinking about picking a specific day of the week to use this as a theme regularly for that day of the week. Looking forward to this learning experience - good luck everyone!
@emrob Last year the tags were in this format 52wc-2017-w1, 52wc-2017-w2 etc. Will we stick to that? I'll edit my original post with tag info and a list of the themes for handiness maybe...
Think I'll see what Ross has planned for 365 themes for the year and hope he's sympathetic to those who are still learning and who are technical newbies on post processing!!

@northy Good idea, will do. I know I found it very easy to forget last year if I wasn't being reminded. Hopefully I'll stay on track with it too this time around...

I kept forgetting to tag for this challenge last year but will try to be more consistent this year. Having a weekly reminder would be very helpful. @m2016 Thanks for putting this list together - will be a great help I'm sure.
Thanks for putting up the whole list, Mel. I am keen to do it this year. I participated on and off last year. Really didn't like the portrait weeks so it all fell apart. @caterina Hi Caterina, I think generally people just tag their images, and then anyone viewing with the tag for the current week can see them. Also, when I post a weekly reminder, I always invite everyone to post their images for the week in the comments below the post - some post, some choose not to. I hope this helps somewhat :)
