Here are the top five pics from the Breaking the Rules Challenge. You are voting for the best picture and you can give extra points for someone who breaks The Rule of Thirds in spectacular fashion.
Voting will end Saturday at midnight EST. Winner will choose the next rule to be broken and run the next challenge.
Happy Voting.
@smapp So how are 1, 3, 5 "breaking the rule of thirds? I am not expert nor am I knocking the quality of the photos. I happen to like all of them, actually. Now please correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the rule of thirds mean placing the subject in portion of the frame as if it were divided into thirds, or on an intersecting line if you divided the frame into thirds, both up and down and left and right? I guess that they aren't technically on the intersecting lines, but they are in a third of the frame....again, if I am wrong, let me know....
@mikew@shadesofgrey Think of the picture as divided into a grid. Two horizontal equidistant lines and two vertical equidistant lines. This would break the picture into thirds left to right and up and down. The Rule of Thirds states that the area of interest should be placed at the intersection of one the vertical and one of the horizontal lines.
More importantly this challenge is about learning a rule and then breaking while still making a quality a photograph. Therefore you are going to have a continuim of entries. Some will break the rule a lot, some a little less so.
The next person might run the challenge a little differently. I'm cool with that.
@smapp@amyhughes Thanks and I totally understand. I was just curious. I am in no way saying these shouldn't be finalists. I was just trying to clear up my confusion on the issue. I am now better educated because of it. I suppose I could have taken the time to look it up before I posted but thank you for helping my lazy butt out and answering the question! :)
My vote is for 3.
However, I'm curious how 2 got included. The camera is on the top 3rd division line, and the characters are on the bottom 3rd line. Clearly follows the rule of thirds.
IMO the only thing that really breaks the rule of thirds is putting something dead center
My vote goes to #2!
I go for 1.
My pick is #3, that's just too awesome in its simplicity. Love it

Hope this explains my point of view.
