paint trail

You will have to take my word for it, but winning the artist challenge has come as a bit of a shock to me and I feel a bit fraudulent.

To be honest, I have always felt fraudulent in whatever I do - it is like everyone is pretending that they don't know that I don't know anything about what I am doing. I am often reminded of an experience I had in my first term of university when I was studying Architecture. We had done a project on a house extension and all our work was laid out for display and criticism by fellow staff and students. As I came across my work, I saw that one of the more arty lecturers had written on my submission "working directly on the architecture" and along side this someone else had scrawled "balls". Someone had seen through my pretence! Lack of confidence led me to give up my ambitions to be an architect and I am not sure I have ever really recovered.

Confessions over, I realise I have an artist challenge to organise. Pondering on what approach to take, whilst out walking the streets of Bedford, I looked down and beneath my feet was a pavement covered in a trail of spilt paint. I immediately thought of Jackson Pollock. So took a phone snap, and a few clicks later in Photoshop, I ended up with this.

Just practising and still pondering.

Thanks for all those who voted for me by the way. (I think). I'm not very competitive so I hope I haven't lost any friends over it ;)
Very red! Well done on the artist challenege.

Helen, yours was definitely one of the best pictures of the Morandi challenge and Also this Jackson Pollock practicing attempt is fascinating to be an attempt! Waiting for the new challenge!

@domenicododaro Thank you so much for your kind encouragement. I have now made my decision on a new artist and it wont be Jackson Pollock. Just need to put some links together and will announce soon.

@ivan thank you Ivan. Appreciated.

I love your honesty. I feel very intimidated by "artists" because I don't think I have an artistic bone in my body. Its interesting how a past experience can shape our future. Congratulations on winning the artist challenge.

time to update your inner self-talk :)
September 28th, 2016
maybe that person thought you had 'balls', as in the guts and confidence to be brave....

Haha agreed with Kali :) Don't sell yourself short, Helen. We are all learning, and if you've won the Morandi artist challenge it means people genuinely liked yours more! And I know the feeling because in life in general I have a hard time accepting any compliments - and also because I have never done an artist challenge, so I can't imagine how difficult it must be. But you have great shots in your album, and this is definitely one of them - so original and beautiful!!

Congratulations on winning the artist challenge, Helen! Your entry was spectacular! This red paint trail is definitely in the style of Jackson Pollock! It will be interesting to find out which artist you have chosen for the new challenge.
I appreciate your honesty concerning lack of confidence. I feel like I have lived with self-doubt my entire life and it has just been in the last couple of years that I have reached a place of inner peace and acceptance of who I am...mostly due to several traumatic life experiences that brought about an awareness of what is truly important in life. I agree with Kali...positive inner self-talk is so important! :-)

Striking shot, in fact it inspired mine today :)

so you won the artist challenge!! amazing.. I am still so new.. I have no idea where to find these challenges.. I am not good anyway but I would like to see the pics that were posted for this competition...where is it? so which one of your pics won? this is a very creative one indeed!!! but wait...pics and painting are completely different..the time we spend taking a pic, even if sometimes is long is nothing compared with the time that painters spend....

@mariapachon Maria. There are lots of challenges to look out for - go to the tab "discuss" and then look under "themes and competitions". have a go at any that take your fancy - it is a good way to stretch yourself, come up with some new inspiration, and make connections with other 365'ers. This particular challenge was here: http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/28427/artist-challenge-giorgio-morandi and the winning entry here: http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/28427/artist-challenge-giorgio-morandi Thanks for your interest. Have a go - there is something for everyone and much fun to be had!

@moonmtn Thank you Kashia. No such thing as an artist's bone I am sure - it is somewhere in us all - a cry for expression.

@kali66 you pose an interesting alternative explanation which made me smile. The inner self talk can be troublesome at times, but I try to play a different record. Thanks.

@kerosene such kind words which I appreciate your trouble to write Carolne.

I love this Helen! It has such drama, and really flares up the imagination. Congratulations on the challenge - well done, and well deserved! You have always given me such wonderful and inspiring comments throughout this project, and I will forever be grateful for the time you commented that you recognised my 'work' on your feed. Gave me such a buzz- still does! I have nothing but respect and admiration for your work, your words and you. 😎

@wag864 Your comment has touched me. This is such a supportive community - it is no wonder so many of us devote so much time to it. Your words are too kind and very much appreciated, as are you too.

@helenhall you sell yourself way too short. You won the artist challenge because your entry was awesome. You have such a lovely eye for composition, that I am excited to see who/what the next challenge is.
