York railway station canopy

090 - A visit to York railway station to capture a special train arriving here for Railfest2012, and to see a flypast by the Battle of Britain memorial flight left me with time to wander round this beautiful building.

Here we are at the south end of platforms 5 and 6, looking north towards the main station building, between the pillars that support the canopy over these platforms. It's a beautiful structure and complements the main station roof.

Thank you Diana - you're right, this station in particular has lots of character. And the really nice thing is that it is still in everyday use as one of the major stations in Yorkshire.

Thank you Roslyn, this is one of my favourite Victorian buildings, and one of my favourite railway stations, which is as well, since I travel quite a bit by train, and in the summer when steam trains run to the coast I like to go and capture them at this station.
