I went into downtown Pittsburgh yesterday and discovered this delightful city park. I thought I’d take a little lunchtime break there after my shopping; but when I returned, sprinklers were happily serving the pretty plants a drink. The slight breeze carried the spray to places it surely wasn’t intended to go, meaning visitors got a drink as well.
Our beautiful city is enriched by many parks and planters, and I thought it fun to see how they’re kept so healthy and vibrant even if it meant I couldn’t have a seat. I did wonder, however, about the timing of the sprinkle. Perhaps an evening soak when fewer people are hustling and bustling about would be better?
@cejaanderson Thank you, Jane! I was surprised these sprinklers were running at lunchtime, because so many folks like to sit in the park during the lunch hour. For that reason and the evaporation you mentioned, I wonder why they don't run these at night. I suspect there's s good reason. I just don't know it! :-)
Someone definitely set the timer wrong on those sprinklers! It's not a good time to water your plants since the noon day sun actually magnifies the water and inadvertently burns the plants! Early morning or early evening are the best times. Fun shot.
I've always liked Pittsburgh. I went there often when in college (just over the border in the northern panhandle of W. Va. And my younger son and his wife had their honeymoon there!
@olivetreeann I appreciate you commenting on my project! I totally agree with what you said about the sprinklers. I was so surprised to find them on when I arrived back at that park, and I couldn't resist snapping some pictures even though it meant getting a bit damp!
I'm glad you have fond memories of Pittsburgh! We are in love with this beautiful city!
Didn't realize you were in Pittsburgh - spent 4 wonderful years there (Chatham University) back in the late 50's and really found the city interesting. Have been back twice since and the changes are so dramatic. Quite some city. Do like your shot here.
@milaniet Thank you, Milanie! Yes, the changes to Pittsburgh between then and now are dramatic. We have such a beautiful, vibrant city; and it gets better and better all the time! It's become quite a foodie town recently with unique restaurants popping up everywhere; and young professionals are choosing to live and work in the city, creating a lively atmosphere day in and day out. We live 30 minutes outside of the city; but our daughter lives right in the heart of it and loves it!
