A pair of Mourning Doves drew my attention toward the pond this afternoon, and I discovered our first two blooming crocuses! I just knew my treasured copy of The Complete Book of the Flower Fairies by Cicely Mary Barker would contain a tribute to this sweet, little flower; and as with all of Barker's fairy poems, this poem captures the essence of the flower beautifully!
THE SONG OF THE CROCUS FAIRIES
Crocus of yellow, new and gay;
Mauve and purple, in brave array;
Crocus white
Like a cup of light, —
Hundreds of them are smiling up,
By the touch of the warm and welcome sun
Opened suddenly, Spring’s begun!
Dance then, fairies, for joy, and sing
The song of the coming again of Spring.

Thank you all so much for your comments and favs of my recent photos! I appreciate your time, and your words are such a joy to read!
I love that poem - so perfect for your beautiful shot - I really need to find a place to plant some crocus bulbs for next year. I do think they such a sign of encouragement.
