Fledging Day by janetb

Fledging Day

Coming around the bend by the pond yesterday afternoon, I heard loud, continual chipping. The Northern cardinal pair nesting in the big hydrangea relentlessly called to their two fledglings, encouraging them to take their first flights! While one clumsily fluttered onto the driveway, this one stayed tucked away in the safety of the dense branches. Before leaving to meet friends for dinner, we watched and listened for about an hour as Mama and Papa tried and tried to show this reluctant youngster what to do. This morning, the family is gone — success!
Looks awful young to be out of the nest. Great find and capture!

This is wonderful - must have been such fun watch this reluctant little one being so hesitant to face the big world. Glad the parents finally convinced him it would be ok. Fav

This is perfection. Love their big mouths as babes and they are so funny looking when you catch them dead on like you did. And that spiky "hair"...too funny. I love this! His face looks like an old guy and his body like a baby.
