We call him Sterling; and each year, he snuggles into a different place in the garden. This year, Sterling with his little bird friend found a cozy spot beneath a river birch behind some variegated liriope. Pincushion flower, one of my favorite perennials with its airy stems and crimson buttons, leans in and dances for Sterling and his friend in the slightest breeze. Perhaps that’s why they're smiling!
