Before the sun rose higher to reveal the steamy haze that follows an overnight rain in the warm, June woods, I walked in the garden to the tune of the trilling toads and a croaking frog at the pond. I found astilbe blooming magenta, pink, and creamy white; and I found the newness of the day a gift.
