I know it’s true because I saw fire starters like these in action at the beach last summer. They really help get a fire going; and with our first camping season starting soon, I’ve made two batches.
For years, tall taper candles that burned down during a party to just a few inches got saved for use during power outages; but after the installation of the generator, they just sat there on the shelf. It felt good to finally find a way to repurpose them. I filled each well of a cardboard egg carton with dryer lint, melted those stubby candles and poured the liquid wax over top. Once dry, I cut each well apart from the rest and stored them all in a plastic bag.
Jim and Connie, our veteran camping friends, have blessed us by sharing this craft recipe along with invaluable knowledge and advice throughout this adventure; and we can’t wait to hear our first campfire crackling!
We use bees wax (from ancient projects) and cedar shavings into egg cartons (we do the five dozen purchases), that works well in the wood stove on a cold night.
such love going into the planning of your trip. I hope they work really well - certainly an interesting idea. I love all the warmth and shine you have introduced to the scene here through the copper pan and the taps in the back.
