I love to set a table, especially for guests. With joyful anticipation of love and laughter around a good meal, my heart sings!
Today, I used the crocheted doilies that have been in my family for decades. They’re a bit faded, but I’m told Aunt Elsie (my Mom’s sister) crocheted them over 60 years ago; and that makes the pretty doilies pretty special. My Old Country Roses china has an interesting history, too. According to the Royal Albert website, the designer back in 1962 was inspired by a “quintessentially English country garden, in full bloom, in the magical haze of summertime.” I like the thought of that. Grape hyacinths always remind me of John’s first home where hundreds of the plush purple spikes carpeted the bed just off the deck. His then puppy Jack loved to lay in them on a sunny day; and when I found these mossy pots of bulbs for sale at the grocery store, it didn’t take a second for me to grab one. I never got around to splitting John’s and planting some in my garden, but I’ll plant these bulbs; and Lord willing, they’ll make me smile with fond memories every spring.
The afternoon sunshine added its own brand of beauty to the table, but the love of family outshines all. We can’t wait for John and Nirali to get here!
