Upright Details

The original designer of our landscape felt that a strong vertical element was needed to balance our home’s tall Tuscan columns, but the sharp needle-like shape of this columnar beech didn’t appeal to me. I chose to trust. Like a soldier standing strong and tall, it’s stood guard over the pond for nearly 21 years; and now that its severely sharp shape has softened a bit with age, I can’t imagine any other tree in its place. I leaned in close to admire its unusual upright details and felt grateful for the long ago trust that led to today’s joy. There's a lesson in these skyward-pointing limbs.
I love the tight buds waiting to open - and such an interesting story to their beginnings.

A lesson in trust, indeed. We are so easily led away from trusting others. So glad you found the beauty in the placing of this tree and have shown us a glimpse of it.

Beautiful focus and great lesson. I’m alway struggling to trust my seven year old’s decision but I should try more often. It’s so hard to let ago and him being home for an entire year due to the pandemic did not help either.
