Popping marigolds in between the herbs and vegetables makes my heart sing. I do it every year. This year, I stepped outside the box and added angelonia, too. As a traditionalist, that was hard! Its fragrant, snapdragon-like flowers clustered along tall spikes attract hummingbirds and butterflies; and I chose white. I could have photographed the new addition, but that’s for another day. My traditional nature made this marigold my subject as I picked up the hose to water my freshly planted and beloved kitchen garden.
I walk out the kitchen door several times a day to spend time here. This waist-high garden makes admiring each plant's sweetest, tiniest details easy; tending even easier; and losing track of time easier still. I lean in and sniff, rubbing leaves between fingers for full effect. It's good to grow things, which in turn grows us.
The Lord will guide you continually,
And satisfy your soul in drought,
And strengthen your bones;
You shall be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water, whose waters
do not fail.
— Isaiah 58:11
Beautifully captured, with the lovely bokeh. I have not purchased the normal amount of herbs or flowers this year, due to the imminent arrival of the cicadas. I look forward to seeing more of your garden.
Delightful thoughts and photo to match. I have a mini-herb garden growing in some of my pots. They are just about ready for the first harvest. Beautiful shot!
