Mike and I discovered stone fruit yesterday at the 14th Annual Antiques Show to benefit Kerr Memorial Museum. We have much to learn about stone fruit. The dealer described the piece as late 19th century from Italy and the individual grapes, which are wired to a genuine piece of grapevine, as alabaster (although she wrote marble on the receipt). A quick bit of research raised some questions — Italian or Mexican? Alabaster or Marble? Intriguing, indeed!
One thing's for sure — they're grapes; and I love Mike's idea to display this old, oversized, beautiful cluster in our long-awaited dream come true — a recently designed and soon to be constructed wine cellar. Let the work begin!
Wow, that is so interesting, Janet. I've never heard of them before. Cool shot. I deleted my first post since I now see that these are not real grapes and should not be eaten. Best of luck on your wine room.
