Hauntingly Familiar

I've always liked the texture of the stone walls on this small building in Esmond. The building likely dates to the early mill days in the 19th century, and I don't believe it's been in use for a couple of decades. The position of the windows - and the two you see are the only two on that side - is interesting, and I love the way the angles of the roof and windows all stand out against a darker background. Wanting to depart a bit from the wider shots of the past week, yet wanting to stick to the dark, somewhat disturbing texture I've been portraying, I chose this building for today's shot. The dark windows are somewhat foreboding, and the greyish-green texture gives it a somewhat haunted feel. I did play around with some other colors, but this one kept calling me back.

Post processing was interesting, today. I ran it through a clarity filter in Topaz Adjust to bring out the sharpness and detail in the stone wall. From there, though, the building and the background were processed independently. I used several gradient maps to produce the color you see in the sky and in the building. Several hue and saturation adjustments were made, as were at least two levels adjustments per layer. The final touch to the entire image was a warming filter. That brought out just the right amount of contrast, especially in the background tree.
