Sealed Crypt by kannafoot

Sealed Crypt

There is a historic cemetery at the corner of Bay State Road and Route 44. Several of the graves contain veterans of the American Revolution, and others contain vets of the Civil War. One interesting grave had two internments; one internment was from the Civil War and the other was from World War II. They may be a future shot since I like the generational aspect.

What caught my attention today was the former entrance to this crypt. I could not determine if it was an abandoned crypt, or if had just been sealed, but it's clearly no longer accessible. The use of cinder blocks to seal the entrance appears to be of modern construction. There is an engraved stone above the door, but It was worn to the point where I could not read the lettering, so I've no idea what it might have to say about the owners of the crypt. There were two such crypts in this hillside. The one that is still in use is dated from 1915. This crypt, though, is clearly older, but whether it dates to the 19th or 18th century was indeterminate. I suspect the former based on the style of rock and mortar used in the wall. I don't believe that style became popular much before the mid-19th century. If anyone has better luck than I in reading the inscription, I'd be most interested in what's engraved here!

Post processing involved a detail light filter in Topaz Adjust. I think sharpened it further by duplicating that layer and overlaying it with a soft light blend mode and high pass filter at 2 pixels. I adjusted the levels a bit, and then finished with a slight contrast adjustment.
Love the texture and roughness of this photo. Great job!
