Summertime by kannafoot

Summertime

Nothing says "summertime" in Rhode Island like a Del's Lemonade. For those that have never experienced this uniquely Rhode Island treat, it's well worth a special visit to the Ocean State. Toss in some hot weiners and coffee milk, and you'll be a native in no time. As to Del's, this special frozen treat originated in Italy in 1840. Franco DeLucia brought the family recipe to America when the family emigrated at the turn of the 20th century. The very first "Del's Frozen Lemonade" shop opened in Cranston in 1948, and the enterprise soon expanded to five locations throughout the state. The franchise is now worldwide, but the core business remains family run right here in Rhode Island. While many "frozen lemonade" shops are in existence, none have managed to match the unique flavor of a Del's. It remains an irresistible Rhode Island staple.

Special thanks go out to Jackie, seen in this photo, for consenting to this shot. Interestingly enough, she was very familiar with Project 365. This is Jackie's third year working this Dell's location at Colt State Park as a summer job. On days like today, with a nice breeze, warm sun, and comfortable shade in one of Rhode Island's most scenic locations, who could ask for better work?

Post processing started with a detail light photo in Topaz Adjust. I then adjusted the levels a bit, primarily to recover shadows, and also adjusted brightness and contrast. A blue to white gradient in soft light blend mode was applied to the sky.
this is such a cool shot!

@agavegirl13 Thanks, Karuna! I was kind of concerned about whether it would work out okay with the car in the background. Fortunately, it's a convertible, so it added to the summer scene.

@tabithasyear Thanks, Tabitha! Okay, an ice lolly? You know, Winston Churchill once described our two countries as "two nations separated by a common language." There are times when that makes perfect sense!

@calm Thanks, Cathy! Suffice it to say, I had to buy one... (Can't resist 'em.)

@danpics12 Thanks, Danielle! Hey, CT isn't THAT far away!

Sorry, I mean, 'Ice Pop'? 'Popsicle'?
July 10th, 2012
@tabithasyear LOL Yep, we call 'em "popsicles" here. What we call "lemonade" in Rhode Island is actually a slushy lemon drink. It's more liquid then frozen. It looks like this: http://fromtheopenroad.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/july09_rt_lr_day81-6.jpg

@kannafoot Haha they're slush puppies!! Lemonade is the fizzy lemon drink, ice lollies is the frozen version :)

@tabithasyear I've seen it called slush puppies in other parts of the US. (Rhode Island has some really odd names for everything.) Usually, it's cherry flavored, though. Lemonade - the fizzy lemon drink - is really popular in other areas of the country, but again, Rhode Island has to be different. LOL Ice lollies - popsicles - are very popular, but they're typically grape or cherry flavored.
